Asylum Seeker

Refugees fleeing to a foreign country can seek asylum in that country or another so that they can stay away from their own country permanently. Since the verification process is very time-consuming, some refugees will become asylum seekers and stay for a long time in a foreign country. As no other countries are willing to accept them, such asylum seekers will be put in a difficult situation and will not have adequate protection. One example is the Vietnamese boat people grounded in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 80s.
