Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)

The FAO was founded in 1945 as U.N. organization specializing in addressing food problems, with a membership of 170 countries. The objectives of the FAO are to enhance the efficiency of food production and distribution and to improve the nutritional conditions of the population in developing countries and rural areas. The FAO regularly collects, analyzes and distributes information about food and agricultural production, develops proposals concerning food production planning for individual countries, and carries out food production improvement programs in developing countries.
