Environment

"Environment" generally refers to humanity as well as its surrounding objects and conditions, including all natural and man-made matters. Of utmost importance to humanity is the natural environment, which comprises various valuable resources such as water, plants, animals, soil and air. However, our natural environment has suffered from serious damage in recent years. For example, extensive deforestation and fuel gas emissions pollute the atmosphere, produce carbon dioxide, and thereby create the so-called "greenhouse effect." The greenhouse effect prevents the ultraviolet radiation of the sun from diffusing and has caused significant global warming and unusual climatic phenomena in recent years.

Damage done to the environment has affected poor people directly because they are mostly living in areas with insufficient natural resources and simply have no extra resources to protect themselves. In view of the situation, some non-government organizations have launched environmental protection programmes in developing countries to improve the living conditions of the poor.
