Aid

In general, this refers to all kinds of assistance. In development work, aid usually means money and materials donated or loaned to poor countries by wealthy countries, to promote the economic development of poor countries. However, some donor countries regard such aid as a political or economic tool and prefer to assist in the production and export of agricultural products and raw materials that can improve the competitiveness of their own industries. In other cases, donor countries attach conditions to the aid they offer, for example only allowing the beneficiary countries to use the aid on infrastructure projects, such as highway and power plant construction, instead of helping the poorer classes directly to improve their lives. Other donor countries even make economic aid into a political deal. Such practices are against the basic principles of humanitarian aid and poverty alleviation work.
