E-poverty

In the information age, there emerges a new type of poverty ¡V E-poverty, or poverty caused by the lack of information technology (IT). With the increasing permeability of IT and its growing importance in the world trade market, one who has a grasp of the technology will surely have greater access to useful information and take a more advantageous position in an economic society based on IT knowledge, while those who cannot access the Internet may find it more difficult to acquire basic information needed for daily life and may even be deprived of the means to express their opinions and participate in community affairs, and may end up isolated socially and suffering from poverty.

E-poverty is caused by the uneven distribution of resources, which makes poor people unable to acquire the information they need and will give rise to further poverty and inequality. This vicious cycle will never end if the problem of resource distribution is not addressed properly.
